Your first pottery class: what to expect

The tools, the mess, and why your first bowl will be perfectly imperfect.

Jonas Weber

Nobody walks into their first pottery class and makes a nice bowl. That's the point. You're not there for the object — you're there for two hours where the only task is your hands, a spinning wheel, and the wet clay in front of you.

What to bring

Nothing. The studio has aprons, clay, tools and water. Wear something you don't mind getting dirty, tie your hair back, and take your rings off before you sit down.

Finished pottery pieces drying on a shelf
Your first piece goes on the shelf to dry — you'll pick it up a week later.

The quiet part

Most people leave pottery class saying the same thing: they didn't think about their phone, their job or their week for the whole two hours. That's the real reason to book it.
